Favorite Bean Mash

  • Cannellini beans
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Jalapeno
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt, pepper, cumin
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
  • Lime (optional)
  • Cilantro (optional)


  1. Wash and drain beans
  2. Slice onion and jalapeno
  3. Heat oil in pan. Once warm, cook onion, jalapeno and garlic if using. Cook until soft and translucent.
  4. Add in the beans. Season with salt, pepper, cumin.
  5. Cook until beans turn into mush. This will happen naturally, or you can use an immersion blender.
  6. Squeeze lime in last few minutes on stove.
  7. Remove from heat, sprinkle with cilantro, and enjoy!

This recipe is my own, but it's inspired from my memories of eating at Las Camelias, a Mexican restaurant in San Rafael, CA. They always served a delicious bean mash with their entrees.
